Expected outcomes and deliverables

Student teams will deliver a 12 to 15-page report identifying their analysis of the HR process they studied within your organization and formulating a solution and recommendations. Common project topics for students could be related to employee recruitment and selection, onboarding, training and development, performance management and evaluation, compensation structure, health & safety at work, equity, diversity and inclusion, as well as overall HR strategy. Students will have the option to share their findings with you, if they are comfortable doing so. You have the option to make this a requirement, if you inform them from the start that one of your conditions to participate is for them to share their report with you at the end.

Project Examples

Requirements

A core component of this undergraduate course is a group project where students collect human resources (HR) data and consult on an HR process in your organization. Students will apply course-specific knowledge and skills to produce relevant recommendations. They will subsequently curate, share, and showcase their insights in a report.

For Winter 2024, there are 45 students in class, working on various organizations in groups of 5. A student team will be assigned to your organization during the week of February 5. Students will interview an employee or manager affected by an HR process, as well as an employee or manager working in HR. The two staff in your organization participating in this class project should budget approximately two hours over the course of the semester, one hour for the initial interview and another hour to answer additional questions (if needed). These interviews will be held virtually outside of class time. The student team and your representatives will communicate via email for scheduling purposes and for other exchanges pertinent to the project.
