Learner goals and capabilities

Contact North BC is funded by the British Columbia provincial government to provide local access to online education programming from British Columbia’s publicly funded colleges and universities, skills and training providers. Learners in communities in Northwest British Columbia can access their local online learning centre support services and their online programming without leaving their community.

Our participants are Indigenous students who reside within their home communities while enrolled in a diverse range of online programs at various post-secondary institutions. Our students bring a rich tapestry of traditional learning and deep connections to the lands and waters of Northwest BC, and the natural resources they sustain. Some of the major areas of focus for our students include social and environmental sustainability, green technologies and the advancement of sustainable economies in the north. They are strong practical, innovative and creative thinkers with well-developed hands-on skills, investing strong work-ethic into projects that have practical and tangible applications.

Deliverables will vary depending on the project. Given that our students are majority Indigenous students enrolled in a variety of programs and backgrounds, we are able to accept diverse projects suitable to their abilities. In some cases, we may be able to assemble multidisciplinary teams to provide a more rounded service to the project. At the conclusion of a project, our students are able to provide reports or other assets that may further enhance your business goals. Mentorship provided to students during the experience will play an important formative role.
