As part of the Applied Statistics specialist program, all students complete a data analysis in collaboration with a group or organization. We are looking for companies or organizations with rich data and interesting questions to work with our students. A group of 10-20 4th year Statistics students, led by a senior PhD student, would work with you to extract meaningful information from your data.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Students will complete individual analyses and reports. This will include a written non-technical report, derived data sets, if any, and R code used for the analyses. The top projects will be provided to the company or organization.

Requirements

Depending on the data you have available and the questions that are of interest to you, students could work on:

  • Determining the important factors that influence trends or outcomes.
  • Predicting trends.
  • Identifying anomalies or unusual events.
  • Detecting structures in data, such as observations that cluster based on similar characteristics.
