project planning project management project charter timelines research project management institute (pmi) methodologyDuring their final semester project management graduate student teams are assigned a cumulative total of 600 hours to work on a project to either develop a Project Management Plan, conduct research etc., for a project of your choice. Using Project Management Theory guided by PMI standards, students will determine the breakdown of work of a future project for your organization, including project requirements, risks, costs, timelines, and responsibilities to drive the implementation process.
Learners
Each student project manager will dedicate a minimum of 100 hours to your project, specifically the student will:
- Develop a project charter
- Develop and deliver a complete project plan or requested research in the sponsors specified format
- Prepare weekly status reports
- Use project management tools for collaboration
- Close the project

Project Examples
Requirements
Project examples could include, but are not limited to:
- An event or workshop
- New business plan and government funding opportunities
- Competitor analysis
- Operational research and efficiency
- Develop or enhancement of a website
- Implementation or evaluation of a software or system
- Business process change
- A marketing and branding initiative
- New product/service, business launch
Students capabilities, in the example of an event or workshop project, students will:
· Develop a project charter, identify and research venues etc., within the scope and requirements requested by the sponsor; a complete project plan including a schedule, risk assessment and budget and other required documents
· Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the project plan is being developed in accordance with the project requirements and the companies strategic initiatives
Students will not:
· Execute the event except in circumstances where the project aligns with an area the students have interest and experience in.
Outcomes:
Phase 1 - Project Plan: Students will meet with organization representative(s) to understand the project scope and prepare a detailed plan for completion of the project.
Phase 2 - Project Execution: Students will work on deliverables outlined in the project plan. Teams will periodically communicate with organization representative(s) as needed to complete project tasks.
Phase 3 - Report and Presentation: Students will submit a project plan in person or virtually in the format requested by the sponsor. Teams will also formally present their project in class.
Milestones
Project Requirements Meeting :
Touch Point 1 Meeting - Meeting between students and organization to verify project scope, communication styles, and important dates.
Touch Point 2 Meeting - Status update meeting between students and organization.
Final Delivery - Final delivery of project
Communication with teams including meetings are subject to change and may vary depending on the project
