A full class of healthcare management students will tackle a project relating to a healthcare leadership or a management challenge on behalf of your organization. They will create new policies, update existing policies, or design a new program based on your goals.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Phase 1 – Project Plan: Students will meet with organization representative(s) to devise the project scope and prepare a detailed plan for completion of the project.

Phase 2 – Project Execution: Students will work on deliverables outlined in the project plan. They will periodically communicate with organization representative(s) as needed to complete project tasks.

Phase 3 - Outcome: Report and Presentation: Students will submit a detailed report on the outcomes of the project and recommendations. This may include an updated policy document, the outline for a new program, or other deliverables as agreed upon.

Based on your unique needs and interests the project scope and deliverables will be customized to maximize your value and benefits.

Project examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing a strategy for a health care provider to attract and retain young nurses. This hiring and employee retention program would provide targeted insight from your target applicants.
  • Creating a SWOT analysis for an organization.
  • Using a Plan Do Study Act (PDSA) quality improvement approach to address an organization's area of performance.
  • Conducting a formal assessment of an organizational capacity to address medical, behavioral, psychiatric, and substance use problems.
  • Complete a business case pro forma for an organization or product.
  • Program planning and implementation strategies.

Additional company criteria

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Students are expected to provide the company with a final report and presentation as part of the project deliverables in a format that is agreeable to the company. Feedback from the company of students' performance and deliverable standards are important for the overall assessment of completion of the project.

Be available for a quick phone call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.

Provide a dedicated contact person who is available for weekly/bi-weekly drop-ins to address students’ questions as well as periodic messages over the duration of the project.

It is important to understand that this is an educational opportunity above all else and industry partners should ensure that the project scope aligns with the skillset of participating learners and consult the course instructor.
