This applied consulting course is intended to serve students with the opportunity to to find community organizations who would want our students to put their academic learning to work in a hands-on work experience. Building from the successful Applied & Independent Study model, the Dhillon School is Business is offering this Applied Consulting course for students to work in small teams on high-impact learning applied learning opportunities that allow them to integrate their learnings from the course into a practical environment. Students will work with companies to solve problems and provide meaningful deliverables (please see examples further down). Organizations will be responsible for informing, guiding, and mentoring students.

Project Examples

Requirements

Experiences will focus on entrepreneurship, social innovation, digital marketing/digital technology, financial literacy, STEM, or applied research with an industry partner or as part of an entrepreneurial experience. Business students in years 2-4 , under supervision of their instructor; will be working on project that may include one or multiple of the following topics:

1. Organizational development:

  • Strategic planning;
  • Analysis of the innovation and market fit;
  • Scenario planning;
  • Process re-engineering.

2. Consumer market research:

  • Documentary Research;
  • Customer segmentation; by services; by sectors; and by geography
  • Surveys;
  • Focus Groups;
  • Interviews;
  • Pricing.

3. Competitive Intelligence:

  • Supply Chain Management
  • Outsourcing;
  • Due diligence

Additional company criteria

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

A representative of the company will be available for a pre-selection discussion with the administrator of the course to review the project scope.

A representative of the company will put in approximately 10 hours of time throughout term orienting students to the company, providing information, answering questions, mentoring, etc.

A representative of the company will be available to answer questions from students in a timely manner for the duration of the project.
