blockchain research papers conflict resolution encryption transcribing peer-to-peer innovation research investigationPositions available: 12. We will help support students to collaborate as a team.
CICOLAB, a nonprofit support network for systems-thinkers in collective intelligence, has written what we have called a "BlackPaper" highlighting what we see are clear and imminent threats coming from far-right, violent extremists using encrypted technologies like the blockchain. In this paper we have highlighted what we see are solutions to problems with decentralized moderation, and we want to build on this paper with a commission report detailing the next steps we recommend the community at large to take. That's where you, the student team, would come in. We need you to conduct extensive interviews with people in the decentralized technology field (blockchain, DAOs, etc), transcribe them, harvest the most important points, organize the information using software, and then produce a summary of the larger findings.
CICOLAB will provide you with an initial list of questions you will need to research, a group of advisors, and contacts we would like you to interview. Some of the research has already been done, and it is a matter of reading it and compiling it. The rest is field research to do from your own investigations and interviews.
You (the students) would gather together the research that has already been done on the topic, and also do your own investigations into P2P communities that have suffered through conflicts, to examine what patterns are happening over and over again. You would then spread out to different blockchain communities with a list of questions we feel need to be answered.
By the end, the group of students will produce the following:
- A 10-page (or less), graphically attractive and very well written PDF summary, which we will release as a public whitepaper;
- A list of questions you have answered satisfactorily, and what questions remain unanswered;
- A larger report of perhaps 200-300 pages, which includes extensive linking to original source material, such as research papers and interviews with professionals in the field (this might be indexed within a software program instead of something like Google docs).
- A knowledge repository of recorded interviews, along with original video footage, transcripts, and notes, like the following: https://workflowy.com/s/knowledge-repository/0pFxLdWqyLpTi9Gb;
- A personal story of your collective journey, such as https://miro.com/app/board/o9J_lViZOsA=/, where you tell a tale of your collective time together and make explicit their assumptions, their mistakes, and their successes;
- A list of recommendations for CICOLAB of what we need to to put in place to make the whole process go smoother the next time.
We think that your hard work will lead to the funding of a decentralized conflict resolution system, which is a critical innovation needed to prevent large-scale conflict like genocide.
