Details

Concordia is a charity based in Brighton. Our mission is to support people to develop skills and gain experiences so that they can thrive. We run programmes that change lives and nurture global citizens who care about each other, their local communities and the world.

We are part of a global community – we work with partners and people from all over the world. All our projects are impactful - whether they are just up the road from us or on the other side of the world. We do this by working with local communities and delivering programmes that respond to local needs.

Our work as a charity supplies five core services: CYA (Concordia Youth Action), International Volunteering, NCS (National Citizens Service), Seasonal Workers Programme and our Wellbeing Programme. Although all our programmes vary, they are all motivated by our desire to make the world a better place.

Deliverables

Challenge Outline:

How can we increase the participant numbers in our international volunteering programme?

For several years, the sign-up for our international volunteering programme has declined. As a local charity, we are struggling to get through to people wanting to go abroad, and sometimes we wonder if what we offer is still in line with what today's volunteers are looking to gain. With the local ad-hoc volunteering increased, we wonder what learnings we can take from this to offer a rewarding experience.

Key aims/objectives:

  1. What are the main obstacles/hinderance standing between people aged 16 to 25 and international volunteering?
  2. Is joining international volunteering still considered a source for personal development?
  3. What would people aged 16-25 expect from an international volunteering opportunity?
  4. How can Concordia as an organisation support our volunteers to thrive?

Due to time restraints, please do not conduct primary research or surveys. Using your critical-thinking and research skills, students should review existing literature, research, and data to make recommendations.

Concordia was founded in 1943 to recruit volunteer labour to encourage peace and reconciliation in the aftermath of the Second World War. Since then, Concordia has supported around three-quarters of a million people to undertake incredible programmes that support local communities all over the world.
