Our not-for-profit organization has been successfully running camps to develop the sport of synchronized skating since 2008, with the ultimate goal of getting the sport into the Winter Olympic Games. After running 9 successful development camps across Canada and internationally, we are looking for assistance in researching and creating an action plan for legally and responsibly bringing our camps to more international locations (ie to the USA, Europe, Australia, etc).

We believe this project will include the following responsibilities:

  • Researching tax and work laws in various countries
  • Contacting Revenue Canada and local agencies in various countries to make inquiries
  • Strategizing how to successfully bring our youth camps to countries outside of Canada. May include researching the process for incorporating as a business in other countries, or finding "loopholes" whereby a Canadian NFP can deliver a program internationally without having to pay tax in that country.
Deliverables
  • Look into local tax and labour laws in USA, France, Australia, The Netherlands, etc
  • Determine where we can deliver youth camps; what steps we need to take, what implications there will be, etc
Mentorship

Students will work directly with OneTeamMVMT for mentorship and supervision throughout the project. This is a project which is very important to us as an organization, and the opportunity to work with students who are completing projects for their coursework is invaluable. The students will work with the Executive Director; any questions they have, clarifications they need, or direction sought throughout the working term will come from the ED.

OneTeamMVMT is a non-profit organization (NPO) that creates opportunities for youth development and lifelong engagement in sport, through opportunities which promote athleticism, artistry, and inclusivity – such as the team discipline of synchronized skating. Synchronized skating is a co-ed sport which is comprised of 90% females, and provides an outlet for individuals to stay engaged in sport for life. This sport plays an important role in keeping females engaged in healthy, active living, by providing access to a team activity that combines artistry and athleticism. Female-dominant sports are particularly in need of support; according to Canadian Women and Sport, 1-in-3 females leave sport by their late teens, compared to 1-in-10 males. According to CAAWS, if a girl isn’t participating in sport by the age of 10 there is only a 10% chance of them being physically active at age 25.
Our NPO successfully proliferates the sport of synchronized skating through our year-round initiatives.
