communication music ensembles management data management leadership filingThe goal of the project is for the student to develop an understanding of the role of a music ensemble director and display competence in the tasks expected of this role. The student will be asked to act as an ensemble coach, sectional leader and administrative assistant and be required to be actively engaged in studying these areas of leadership in order to achieve the identified goals and to determine how they apply to the individual. Assignments and deliverables for the student coincide with the broad tasks outlined in the following section and final outcomes and deliverables are purposefully left flexible to reflect the dynamic nature of being a music director.
- Student will display competence in music copying, filing music, and library data management.
- Student will prepare and manage data as it pertains to musical ensembles including the preparation of programs, personnel management and concert logistics.
- Student will work on skills to develop confidence in directing an ensemble with practice based learning on the podium and in observation off the podium.
- Student will study and develop an understanding of communication in a professional ensemble environment.
- I will provide ensemble podium time to allow the student to develop musical direction skills.
- I can provide technology, such as video recording equipment for the purpose of student analysis and personal reflection.
- I will provide the student with access to library resources.
- I will provide feedback and constructive critique based on the tasks that are required by the student.
- I will help the student in their personal reflection and analysis.

FFAC faculty and staff have developed exciting new degree options including a new major in Recording and Production in the Bachelor of Music program. There is also a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) with majors in Arts and Cultural Management, Music Theatre Performance, Theatre Production, and Studio Arts being proposed. These are valuable additions to the already well-known and established degree programs in music including the Music in Jazz and Contemporary Popular Music (B.Mus.)
