Project Description and Scope:
Introduction
The VSE Career Centre is looking for students to write, in collaboration with the Director, a thorough and comprehensive business proposal that supports expanding our operations beyond just the BIE program and to the other VSE students including the undergraduate and graduate programs.
Students would have the opportunity to
- Use the final report from the current state assessment project to strategize the overall approach to writing a one-page business proposal with a detailed final report attached
- Determine the tools needed to write an effective proposal and create an outline mapping what the proposal will address
- Assess and complete any additional benchmarking or research required prior to writing the business expansion proposal
- Liaise with other members of the VSE and UBC community and other stakeholders
- Write outlines of student and staff testimonials, and past statistics that will be included in the proposal
- Include an impact analysis in the business expansion plan, as well as the possible hurdles that could arise with an expansion
- Work with the VSE Career Centre team to build and improve upon the proposal keeping in mind the mission and vision of the Centre
- Present findings and the final report to the VSE Career Centre Director, Coordinator, Work Learn staff and other team members, which may need to be further presented to the VSE Director and other relevant VSE staff
- Communicate regularly with the Director, Coordinator, and other VSE Career Centre staff via email, in-person and by phone, in a professional manner
- Attend weekly staff meetings to discuss updates and ongoing activities with the VSE Career Centre Director
- Communicate key learnings, takeaways, and insights through debriefs, summary reports, and weekly meetings
- Other duties as required

- You have written communication skills and past experience with writing detailed reports
- You have the ability to be flexible and adaptable in a dynamic environment
- You have an affinity for self-directed and collaborative project-based work
- You have basic office administrative skills and the ability to operate standard office equipment
Qualifications
· Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
· Strong organizational and time-management skills, as well as an eagerness to learn
· Excellent written communication skills and a passion for writing
· Ability to deal with a diversity of internal stakeholders in a calm, courteous, and effective manner, utilizing strong business acumen
· Resourceful and able to research best practices in a variety of areas including benchmarking
· Strong interpersonal skills in all forms (email, phone, in-person)
· Able to deal with information in a confidential manner and respond with sensitivity
· Equally at ease working independently and in a team environment
· Previous experience with Qualtrics, WordPress, and/or Canvas (asset)
· Previous experience conducting research and developing comprehensive research reports (asset)
· Must be able to work 10 hours per week for 8 weeks
Student will receive:
- Weekly oversight through prescheduled meetings
- Constant feedback on operations
- Recommendations and potential to return for other projects after completion
