wireframing software design competitive analysis user experience (ux) design user flows visual assets mobile application development design tool user interface prototyping user interface (ui) designOur company is in need of a design audit of our current product concept, a mobile-first web application.
Tasks may include:
- Performing a competitive analysis of existing products that serve a similar audience.
- Performing informal user-centered research to inform design decisions.
- Design consideration for how key features of the current mobile-first web application concept can be expanded for interaction on a desktop and/or tablet web-interface.
- Learning and using various software design tools. Current product concept is in Figma.
- Editing of a UX / UI prototype of a mobile application which can be used on varying mobile hardware.
- Review of product wireframe to ensure all key aspects are captured in the current design concept.
- Review current design components and generate concepts for updated visual design of application components to better suit the intended user.
By the end of the project, students should complete the following list of activities:
- Familiarize themselves with our existing web application prototype and the common user flows
- Familiarize themselves with a design tool of their choosing and understand how it works. We strongly recommend Figma.
- Gain comfort enough with the design process to edit any of the needed screens for a mobile application prototype of our product and build a components library
- Use of an appropriate tool for generating a wireframe model of the existing prototype.
- Build a professional presentation of the final design recommendations with the context of the decisions that were made and why, problems they encountered, and next steps they recommend.
Bonus steps would include:
- Conducting any sort of user testing on the prototypes to ensure ease of use and to collect user feedback.
- Review and assessment of competitive analysis
- Presentation of the common user flows in common video format
Final deliverables should include
- The design concepts and all visual assets in a shareable format
- A presentation as stated above of the final designs, user research and competitive landscape.
Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:
- Current product understanding
- Industry standard design tools and applications
- Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter
- Answers to learners questions regarding the development process for physical and digital products
