google maps restaurant operation agile methodology vulnerability scriptingFood Trucks are small, independent businesses that lack the infrastructure of their brick-and-mortar restaurant counterparts. The Food Trucks Association aims to develop a full suite of tools to provide a competitive infrastructure and suite of tools and resources that will help Food Trucks to advance their business.
The Association is looking to refine and hone an alternative system to UberEats, Ritual, DoorDash and SkipTheDishes (among others) here in Canada. These apps generally charge food vendors upwards of 30% for their fees, inflating costs for consumers while also cutting into the bottom line for food trucks.
We've purchased a script that is fairly well-documented. We'd like for this suite to be refined to meet our needs, while still maintaining its core code to ensure compatibility for future upgrades. We'd also like to test the software for possible vulnerabilities, and ensure that the full feature set can be used, including a loyalty program.
- The script is known as Karenderia. It's been available (with updates) for several years on Code Canyon. https://codecanyon.net/user/bastikikang/portfolio
- https://github.com/luckypal/Karenderia
- The core project relates to the KMRS - Multiple Restaurant System. There are other plugins/modules that would be of interest, but we are pleased to take an agile approach with the student(s) and recognize that these may not be possible. Perhaps after a successful engagement with your class, you might consider the engagement of an upcoming cohort to develop these other pieces. These are: a mobile app, printer support, a loyalty program, a delivery driver extension, support for multiple currencies, and a standalone restaurant app.
- As a nonprofit, we have access to various resources at a free or reduced cost including the Google Grant (Google Ads, Google Maps Credits, etc.) as well as from AWS and others. We'd like to leverage these wherever possible. We have qualified through TechSoup Global.
We are only too happy to provide:
- A briefing document along with a facilitated overview of the important themes and needs for the project
- Any key messages, target audiences and available creative assets to help them understand the brand
- A single point of contact (POC) assigned to your course and students, with a team of experts available for questions
- Access to Slack, Google Workspace, and some other project management tools. We welcome the students so they can feel as though they are part of the team, or at arm's length - whatever is best.
- *For those running courses outside of Canada*, we'll provide guidance and direction for the students to better understand the Canadian business (and geographical) landscape, along with openly available sources of data that could be useful in making their assessments.
- Recognition of the school's involvement and the students' work in a media release (if permitted) and attribution of the students' contributions via LinkedIn or references as required.

An agile approach has been taken and we are now looking to redefine how we can best start and grow to support the industry. It is critically important to us to provide real and lasting value to our members.
Projects that are taken on by students and courses in the Riipen platform will be instrumental in our ability to build capacity to deliver that value.
To date, the work of the Food Trucks Association of Canada has been led by a volunteer Executive Director who is a passionate advocate in this space, and has leveraged a 75% student body of employees made available through various employment subsidies. It is a key part of our mandate to support student learning.
The NAICS code for the Food Trucks is 7223 and other code subsets.
