Details

We manage the financial, payroll, and some operational data for our clients - various nonprofits across Canada. As a Canadian nonprofit, we have access to affordable modern solutions. We have started using them, but a lack of capacity is limiting our ability to expand their use and train our clients on how to use the information effectively. Our team is looking for a data wizard who can help us provide timely, accurate operational data to our clients through BI tools. The primary project requirements include:

  1. Evaluation and cleaning of financial and payroll data through automation and BI tools within the Microsoft Office & Dynamics 365 platforms
  2. A strategy document to outline: How will the data structures be connected? What does a prototype of the report look like?
  3. Execution: Build the reports that have been developed in coordination with the CEO
  4. Knowledge transfer: Document how the reports are developed, how a user will maintain, and how a report recipient might engage with the reports

Deliverables

We’re excited to work with students who can help us not only brainstorm, but also execute a strategy to achieve:

  • A standard BI dashboard/paginated report for internal reporting and at least 1 nonprofit client.
  • The report is only expected to include financial data and staffing hours to ensure that it can be delivered within the 80 hour project scope.
Mentorship

Students will be oriented about the organization and provided access to the necessary tools. You will work closely with the primary project manager who is supervising and available for questions, especially during the strategy development and testing phase. This will also include occasional progress meetings where adjustments to the students' tasks and duties can be made if necessary.

Students will be expected to have some basic knowledge of BI tools (PowerBI/Tableau) and basic program in at least one of: JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Python, R. Internal staff support can direct you to the right resources when you need support.

Purpose Forward is a Canadian not-for-profit corporation that was established in early 2021 to accelerate the growth of grassroots, social purpose organizations. The founders have spent most of the last decade in senior roles in the not-for-profit sector with large community charities and hospitals.

While these established organizations play a crucial role in making our communities better, they are not designed to innovate. The problems of our time require modern solutions to work in a system that has historically been designed with lots of processes to mitigate risk.

Purpose Forward was founded to help grassroots organizations navigate this complex system and effectively scale to maximize impact.
