Project Description and Scope:
Introduction
The Career Centre is looking for students to conduct a thorough analysis of our current operations and services, evaluate and map the effectiveness of our services through feedback and surveying, to identify key aspects to be included into a business proposal.
Students would have the opportunity to
- Evaluate the overall impact of the VSE Career Centre operations
- Map a current state analysis (CSA) of the resources offered to BIE students from the VSE Career Centre (including Arts Co-op and Sauder Co-op), the UBC Centre for Student Involvement and Careers, and the Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre
- Gather information about the operations of the VSE, including interviewing the Director, Coordinator, Work Learn staff, and current and past staff, as well as, through student surveying
- Work collaboratively with VSEUS (a student society)
- Assess areas of overlap between the BIE and BA Economics/ Honours/ MA Economics degree programs in relation to career options and resources
- Benchmark the VSE Career Centre for expansion
- Compile relevant existing VSE Career Centre resources that would be beneficial to BA/ Honours/ MA Economics students in a summary report
- Provide recommendations of BIE career resources that are well suited to be accessible to all VSE students
- Determine potential challenges that may arise from expanding access to current VSE Career Centre resources
- Prepare a final report including all the relevant information required to build out a business expansion proposal
- Communicate regularly with the Director and VSE Career Centre staff via email, in-person and by phone, in a professional manner
- Attend weekly staff meetings to discuss updates and ongoing activities with the VSE Career Centre Director
- Communicate key learnings, takeaways, and insights through debriefs, summary reports, and weekly meetings
- Other duties as required

- You have an affinity for self-directed and collaborative project-based work
- You have basic office administrative skills and the ability to operate standard office equipment
Qualifications
· Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
· Strong organizational and time-management skills, as well as an eagerness to learn
· Ability to deal with a diversity of internal stakeholders in a calm, courteous, and effective manner, utilizing strong business acumen
· Resourceful and able to research best practices in a variety of areas including benchmarking
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills in all forms (email, phone, online)
· Able to deal with information in a confidential manner and respond with sensitivity
· Equally at ease working independently and in a team environment
· Previous experience with Qualtrics, WordPress, and/or Canvas (asset)
· Previous experience conducting research and developing comprehensive research reports (asset)
· Must be able to work 10 hours per week for 8 weeks
Student will receive:
- Weekly oversight through prescheduled meetings
- Constant feedback on operations
- Recommendations and potential to return for other projects after completion

The VSE Career Centre is a University of British Columbia (UBC) based centre, which takes a holistic approach as a career resource centre to support Bachelor of International Economics (BIE) students to think critically. Students are supported with their professional and personal development from self-discovery stage to by providing career coaching services and resources. Additionally, we work to build long-lasting relationships with employers, businesses and other key stakeholders to help BIE students become the top choice for recruiters in various industries.
