Details

Professional copy editors are the unsung heroes of the book publishing business. Students will work closely with a published author to help copy edit a 63,000-word mystery novel.

Deliverables

  • Copy edit/proofread a 63,000-word fiction manuscript and provide content editing suggestions, where needed
  • Review and revise content for accuracy and quality, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax
  • Ensure correct tone, voice, clarity, flow, and structure of content
  • Fact-check content like dates and statistics (1980s time period)
  • Be highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Update style guides as required

Mentorship

Students will work closely with the author/publisher to provide a late-stage copy edit of a 63,000-word manuscript. A senior copy editor has already reviewed it once. The student will act as a junior copy editor/proofreader and conduct a final copy edit/proofread to ensure it is publication-ready.
