As lifespans continue to extend, and people are at risk of outliving their retirement savings, CanAge is looking to engage Canadian employers in a meaningful way to bridge the gaps and barriers that exist for older adult workers who wish to work beyond the traditional retirement age of 65.
We would love to engage several groups of students to consider the socio-economic impacts that an older workforce can bring to Canadian employers. A key part of our mandate is also to combat ageism, as many Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategies fail to address age as a factor. The intersection of age and other factors can disproportionately impact one's ability to learn, earn and thrive.
Students will be encouraged to take this project on in a manner that they feel would best address this societal challenge. This might take the form of any of the following ideas and suggestions:
- A self-assessment for employers to gauge their age-friendliness to include and engage an older workforce
- A written presentation that discusses ageism and its prevalence in Canada, and the need for age to be included within DEI strategies
- A proposed program to ensure that older adults as a large part of the Canadian population, are involved in the development of technology at the planning and design stages (within tech companies' workforces) - that efforts are made to bridge the digital divide between younger generations and older adults (50+)
- A guide and cost-benefit analysis for employers on the advantages of engaging an older adult workforce
We are only too happy to provide:
- A briefing document along with a facilitated overview of the important themes and needs for the project
- Any key messages, target audiences and available creative assets to help them understand the brand
- A single point of contact (POC) assigned to your course and students, with a team of experts available for questions
- Access to Slack, Google Workspace, and some other project management tools. We welcome the students so they can feel as though they are part of the team, or at arm's length - whatever is best.
- *For those running courses outside of Canada*, we'll provide guidance and direction for the students to better understand the Canadian business (and geographical) landscape, along with openly available sources of data that could be useful in making their assessments.
- Recognition of the school's involvement and the students' work in a media release (if permitted) and attribution of the students' contributions via LinkedIn or references as required.
