Virtual Social Service Worker Field Placements
Our Foundation is able to offer a virtual internship opportunity for (1 | 2 | 3) Social Service Worker students as a team. Our Project: The Ottawa Rotary Home has a project in mind where your students will be helping us to define what the new Quality Standards Framework (for children who are supported residentially) will look like within our organization. The standards were set out in July by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. So the goal would be to take the framework and make it operational for our programs. There are 12 competencies, of which 5 main ones need a plan as they directly apply to our Respite based programs. I believe that the virtual project would work well for the students at Centennial but recognize that it doesn't have a huge hands on component for direct connection with the people we support. How do you suggest we move forward? The primary focus for the students will be: We are looking for Second-year Social Service Worker students that are ready to virtually support individuals, families, and communities through delivering social service programming to clients. As “professionals in training”, your students will be able to help us out virtually in various ways, developing their skills, knowledge, and attitudes that are necessary to enter the field as a social service work practitioner. We believe we can offer a virtual placement site where students can apply in practice the concepts and theories learned in the classroom. The students have learned in the classroom about many aspects of social service work, including interpersonal skills, counseling, group facilitation, and case management. We will plan to communicate with our virtual intern(s) using these communication tools: (zoom, phone or email) Primary Contact : Cindy Wheeler Secondary Contact: Gina St Amour
