communicationIs your organization looking for communications support related to writing, editing, or research?
Second year students in our Professional Communications course learn and apply the theories of professional communication. They analyze information and develop strategies and techniques for internal and external communication. Students plan, execute, and evaluate communication, then adapt their practice to meet dynamic and evolving organizational or institutional needs.
The major assignment that students complete in this course is writing a proposal for a client. We are seeking community partners who have a communications project(s) that they need support with. Students in this course will be responsible for individually submitting ((or in teams of 2) a written proposal to a community partner describing why they are interested in the opportunity, what skills they have, and why they’re the right fit for the opportunity. Think of this almost as an extensive cover letter!
Learners
While writing the proposal is a course assignment, some of these second students may be looking for volunteer or paid work experience prior to commencing their field placement in their third year and will be interested in completing the work for you. Based on the student proposals you receive and if interested (and students are available!), you can potentially hire one (or multiple) of the students to complete the work for you in the winter or spring term, either paid or unpaid.
Depending on your timeline, hiring a student to complete the work for you through the Level UP Program may be an excellent option. Level UP is innovative work-integrated learning program that allows employers to hire students for short term, fully funded projects ($1,400 stipends provided by the Government of Canada). The Level UP program is currently full for 2021 but is expected to return in spring 2022.
Many of our students come pre-qualified to receive funding from The Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) program which provides organizations wage subsidies to hire students for paid work experiences. The field placement needs to include a digital component and must use technology in some capacity. ICTC funding covers 75% of the student’s salary (up to $7,500). Other funding programs include Magnet Student Work Placement Program and Venture for Canada.
