Using strategic analysis tools (for example, SWOT analysis) our 4th year Commerce students will review and analyse a business challenge for your organization through exploring the interdependencies between organizational functions and the environment. The students will define the problem, conduct a comprehensive situation analysis, formulate alternatives and recommend a strategy and implementation plan.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Final deliverables include:

  1. A 5 or 10 minute oral presentation.
  2. A report of 20 pages minimum that will include a detailed analysis, a financial portrait of your company, as well as a description of appropriate strategies to provide your organization with a competitive advantage.

Project Examples

Requirements

In this capstone project, students will investigate a challenge or opportunity that your organization proposes, drawing on all the tools from previous courses and applying them to an outside client.

Students will define the problem, conduct a comprehensive situation analysis utilizing primary and secondary market research, formulate alternatives and recommend a viable business strategy with implementation plan.

Projects the students are well-equipped to work on include (but are not limited to):

  • Developing a business plan for a new business or new offering from an existing business
  • Developing a new product launch plan
  • Rebranding or marketing of an existing product
  • Competitive analysis research
  • Expansion strategy

Additional company criteria

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

    Provide a contact person who will be available to respond to periodic emails or phone calls throughout the project to answer students' questions.

    Virtually attend final presentation.

    Be available for a quick phone call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.
