nursing mental health research health policy minority groupsIn this opportunity, your company would get the chance to work with our 4th year Nursing students to evaluate existing interventions and services across Canada pertaining to a priority population. The ultimate aim is to create innovative and evidence-based social media and communication strategies that target multidisciplinary stakeholders and are aimed at promoting health equity and inequality in priority populations.
Learners
Students collaborate with a negotiated community agency via the Careers & Experience office at MacEwan University to explore agency priorities, evaluate existing interventions, programs and services pertaining to selected priority populations. As an industry partner, your organization will receive a final research report with a logic model and a communication tool. These communication artifacts will vary depending on the intended audience and purpose of the communication but could be:
- An infographic
- Social media strategy
- Case for support (for advocacy or funding leverage)
- Video clip
- Web page

Project Examples
Requirements
Projects have varied depending on the stakeholder and audience. In general, this research and communication course focuses on Priority Populations, such as:
- Indigenous Peoples, LGBTQ+ Community, Immigrants and Refugees, Homeless, Women and Children, etc.
As well as Public Health Priorities such as:
- Food security, Gender equality, Climate change, Gender-based violence, Human trafficking, Opioid crisis, Safe and clean water, Mental health, Emergency preparedness, Environmental sustainability, etc.
Additional company criteria
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
Companies must be be aware that students operate within a tight time period and be able to manage meetings around varying student schedules.
Be available for a quick phone call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.
Ensure timely sharing and transfer of information and firm commitment to scheduled meetings to support project success
Provide a dedicated contact who is available to answer periodic emails or phone calls over the duration of the project to address students' questions.
