Background:

Choco4Peace (C4P) is a multi-institutional movement that supports constructing and sustaining peace by generating positive socioeconomic and environmental outcomes in post-conflict regions through the empowerment of women, youth, Indigenous and other at-risk people in the cacao & chocolate sector by providing access to markets, financial models and disruptive technologies.

C4P is looking for a keen-nosed finance nerd to join our team as an Assistant as we seek our Seed round of investment. The candidate will be a participant in the direct co-investment and fund selection process by performing screening, research, financial modeling, and quantitative & qualitative analyses in support of the executive team. The candidate should be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, or business (or an MBA), and will ideally have some relevant training or investment experience (e.g., finance, economics, investment banking or management consulting).

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct due diligence on investment opportunities (impact investments, primary funds, and VCs), including conducting market and company research, preparing valuation analyses, and operating models, and investment memoranda, and communicating recommendations to the executive team
  • Coordinate with service providers and C4P groups (Legal, Operations, and Risk) to own the closings of new investments
  • Build and maintain relationships with private equity fund general partners and intermediaries
  • Assist in the preparation of summary review materials in support of internal quarterly reviews, external investor reports, advisory board meetings, and fundraising

Requirements

  • Enrolled in Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, or in an MBA program
  • Communication skills – Strong written and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively formulate and articulate opinions persuasively
  • Technical skills – Ability to understand and develop financial models for companies and private equity funds (e.g., LBO models, valuation models, fund cash flow models)
  • Analytical and critical thinking – Ability to identify and articulate investment considerations and risks. Ability to constructively review and critique team members’ work, and willingness to receive and respect alternate points of view
  • Interpersonal & team skills – Comfortable with consensus decision-making and working in a cross-border, team-based environment
  • High level of intellectual curiosity
  • Self-starter with initiative
  • Interpersonal and time-management skills; Attention to detail
  • Outstanding academic achievement, proven leadership and extracurricular involvement
  • Passion for and understanding of the private equity industry

Mentorship

You will work shoulder to shoulder with the Founder and CEO of the company, Sergio Figueredo, and will meet weekly.

During his tenure at the Finance Alliance for Sustainable Trade (FAST), Sergio directed an impact investment platform with total assets under management of $6.4 Billion USD. Additionally, he was in charge of actively promoting investments to reactivate the cacao sector in El Salvador as a strategy to reduce illegal activities. Sergio studied Economics and International Affairs at the University of Colorado – Boulder, and worked in business development and investment management for financial service providers (FSPs), non-profits, development finance institutions (DFIs), and NGOs.
