Bio

My name is Meighan Sommer, founder of a new non-profit organization called the Give for Good Foundation. My background is Public Health and I created the Give for Good to help reduce barriers faced by vulnerable Canadians in need of goods and services. Basically we're trying to create a space to streamline giving and receiving; where charities, non-profits, schools, social workers and those in need can go to request and access goods and services; and where businesses and community members can go to give. It can often be challenging to donate your unique skills (dentists, hairdressers, psychologist, physiotherapist). Instead of donating your time and goods through typical volunteer organizations and donation depots, this platform enables individuals to give back in ways that are easy, familiar and unique to them.

Give for Good Foundation Fund Development Strategy WI 2021

Project Overview: A key strategic priority for the Give for Good Board of Directors is to create and implement a Fund Development Strategy (FDS). This involves creating a plan for fund development and various strategies to reach our funding needs. As a non-profit organization, Give for Good must rely on municipal and provincial contracts and grants to deliver the programs and supports our community needs and to fulfill our vision and mission. This reliance leaves them vulnerable to changes in government priorities and budgets. Give for Good board and staff need to be able to dream, to plan ahead and to respond to our ever-changing community, and to do that, we must have sources of predictable, sustainable funding. Expected Project Deliverables: 1. By the end of the project Give for Good will have a realistic fund development strategy that they can implement that is inclusive but not limited to the following approaches: Give for Good will have a plan to attract, attain and steward donors including endowment and legacy giving donors Give for Good will have a clear understanding of the most effective fundraising techniques/strategies given the Edmonton/Alberta climate. Give for Good will have innovative ideas for securing new donations and sponsorships Give for Good will have a list of potential YEG community fiscal partners. This would include non-profits in the Edmonton area interested in partnering with the Give for Good Foundation to better serve their clients in need. Focusing on target markets such as sports organizations for childrens, low income families, newborns and children. Give for Good will have a schedule of contract/grant/foundation application and reporting deadlines and calendar. Give for Good will be aware of what is being done already by others in the community so we avoid duplication Give for Good will have a spreadsheet to keep track of dollars coming in, tax receipts given, and thank you’s given/how they were given Give for Good will have a donor retention strategy 2. By the end of the project Give for Good will have a marketing package ready for distribution Organization Description: Give for Good is a new registered non-profit organization and an online platform that helps facilitate meaningful giving in our communities. Our ultimate goal with creating this application is to help alleviate financial pressures of those in need, improve the quality of life for individuals and families throughout Edmonton (and eventually Canada), and create a space for individuals to give back meaningfully. Additional benefits of this application include increased community wellness and a reduction of waste in our landfills associated with these items being recycled/repurposed. This is an exciting project, and all of us at Give for Good will do our very best to ensure this a positive and fulfilling experience for the students involved. Social Media and Branding

As a startup, we would appreciate some help putting together content for our social media accounts, infographics, presentations, including statistics and research about the impacts of poverty and how our non-profit is trying to alleviate the effects of poverty in Edmonton. We would also love some help establishing connections and building awareness of our work and brand among other community partners, schools and non-profits working to improve outcomes for vulnerable populations.
