As the past President of her condo board, she faced many challenges, including lawsuits, mediation, title insurance subrogated claims, declarant misbehaviour, owner challenges, dog issues, special assessments, bylaws, engineering studies, reserve fund studies, fire code violations, tendering for a roofing project and more.
Being a director required Pat to learn about condo management & governance to keep up. She has brings the experience from a 5-year stent as a CUSO cooperant working in Thailand as a Dairy Extension Officer at a Dairy Cooperative and Deputy Director of CUSO Thailand.
Living through a military coup, cooperant mishaps, defying stray dogs running in packs, navigating by motorcycle to remote villages, and rising to the challenge of learning a new language and culture well enough to interact in settings such as formal interactions with senior government officials and presenting impromptu speeches (in Thai) sounds similar to the varied demands placed on startup founders.

Updating Meeting and Minutes Design and Workflows
What is the problem your company is trying to solve by having this work done? What are your criteria for success? The BoardSpace app has paying customers and is well-developed. We would like to conduct user testing on our current web application. We believe that insights coming out of these experiments will help us design a better product, provide insights into how to help our customers and offer a better experience to our customers. The specific project would review the create meeting flow and the minute taking process. We would like a group of students to conduct user testing scenarios on our product with a small group of current and potential customers and then report the results to us. The user group remains condo and non-profit boards of directors. Specifically, administrators could be nonprofit Executive Directors, Chief Executive Officers, Executive Assistants, Condo Directors or Association managers.

Enhanced User Management System for BoardSpace
BoardSpace, a web application designed for board management, aims to improve its user management system to enhance user experience and administrative efficiency. The current system is limited to adding users to one entity - a board or committee - at a time. This means that administrators could have to upload the same user multiple times. There is also no way to manage an organization's users from one place. This is important because users are added and removed annually, so this process needs to be easier. The goal of this project is to redesign and implement a more flexible user management system that allows for management from one location. Key to this project will be creating the sequence of steps that this improvement require and designing the user interface. The project will enable learners to apply their knowledge of user experience design. Key tasks include: - Review how the proposed improvements change the current system. - Design a prototype of the new user management features. -User testing with current customers and others -Finalizing prototype
Secure Database Redesign and RESTful API Development for BoardSpace
BoardSpace, a company specializing in web applications, seeks to enhance the security and efficiency of its existing mySQL database. The current database structure needs a comprehensive redesign to improve performance, scalability, and security. Additionally, a secure RESTful API must be developed to facilitate seamless interaction between the database and the web application. This project aims to provide learners with hands-on experience in database design, security best practices, and API development. The goal is to create a robust, secure, and efficient system that can handle the company's data needs while ensuring data integrity and protection. Key tasks include: - Analyzing the current mySQL database structure. - Designing a new, optimized database schema. - Developing a RESTful API to interact with the redesigned database. - Implementing security measures to protect data. - Testing the new database and API for performance and security.
