Review of Existing Entrepreneurship Policies

The project is to review existing entrepreneurship policies. The goal is to assess how inclusive (or not) the policies are.  A deliverable would be a list of all of Edmonton’s policies related to entrepreneurship. I’m particularly interested in the policies that enable funding to support Edmonton Unlimited and Business Link. I would also ask students to try and locate examples of entrepreneurship policies that are inclusive.  Here  is one such resource.

Social Innovation Institute - Students for Social Change

The MacEwan University Social Innovation Institute engages in many types of social change related work. We work on projects ourselves and create opportunities for others to learn about and start creating social change. Please view our website here to learn more: https://www.macewan.ca/wcm/SocialInnovationInstitute/index.htm. We often have trouble communicating our work and opportunities to get involved with MacEwan students. I am looking for support to learn better how to get students involved. I am interested in learning what messaging might resonate with them, what channels would be best to reach them, and if there are any specific target markets we should look to. I believe there are many students who want to make a difference in their community and the world through their lives and careers, and the Social Innovation Institute can support them to do that - we just need to know how to reach them first!

Community Mental Health Project

SII is working on a project in partnership with the Edmonton Police Foundation and Alcanna Inc. to address the liquor store theft crisis in Edmonton. There are almost 1000 thefts per month from liquor stores and most of the theft comes from organize crime groups who use the liquor as currency. They sell the liquor to other establishments or trade it for drugs or a place to stay for the night. Many of the thieves are young indigenous people looking to fuel their addictions. We are interested in learning how to decrease addiction among young indigenous people in order for them to have a better life and for liquor store thefts to decrease.
