Help a P2P collab group design our information architecture

CICOLAB is a collective intelligence collaboratory, and we are trying to reduce the friction that keeps people from being able to work together. We are trying to for a networked improvement community , an old idea of Douglas Engelbart, and would love to work with anyone in tech who is also inspired by the old ideas of Engelbart, Vannevar Bush and Ted Nelson. This project is trying to help our community get funding for decentralized, interoperable Web 3.0 software, something we feel is critically important but that never seems to gets funded. The main part of our information architecture that we need help on is building a memetic discovery engine. We want to use existing software to to this, such as FedWiki or Media Wiki, but we need help writing down our own specs and choosing what to use. We are trying to use this to mutliply the amount of funding we can receive as a network by putting together more sophisticated groupings to get grant funding. This is what we need: Work with us to articulate what we need out of our memetic database, which we refer to as "hashverse" (a "hashbin" is like a hashtage with governance and resources attached to it, and a hashverse is a bunch of hashbins that connect under the same opt-in governance). The main point is that we need to be able to connect resources to ideas by 2-way links. The people who do this connecting need to be rewarded for their efforts. Research the possible software choices and help us set up a couple of different software to test. Help us solve issues when we get stuck.

Join our Story Crew as a web designer

Number of positions available: 1 team of 10 persons We are looking for up to 10 students to help CICOLAB by joining our Story Crew, which is a decentralized, peer to peer production crew whose clients are "exopreneurs," or deep systems thinkers, who have very complex projects that they find difficult to explain. The Story Team will come up with a way to tell the "client's" story, and your job will be to express that story through web design. This job is a little different from most design jobs because of its peer-to-peer nature. We are always looking for ways to do highly scalable production work, and we welcome your input in designing our process. Our aim is not to make a factory-like production line that is as efficient as possible, but to maximize creativity and collaboration and be able to crank out materials while having tons of fun and creating a workplace that feels more like play. You will fairly simple websites for individuals (from scratch), as well as doing website audits for organizations, in which you give suggestions for what can be changed. Here is what we would like from you: Work with clients to design their personal and company websites (as many as you can do in the time allotted), While you are doing this, design a process for working with clients that you feel can hand off to the next web design crew that comes along later, to help them be more successful. As a freelance designer, I can give you lots of feedback on this process. Work with others on the Story Crew to manage assets like sound, video, etc. Constant feedback for your peers along the way; you will get that same feedback (in the form of Appreciation Bytes), and that will help us give great feedback for you on Riipen and the end of our time together; Towards the end, create a "Story" document like the following that tells your personal tale through the journey, what you struggled with, what you failed at, what your assumptions were, and your successes; Write out a list of suggestions for CICOLAB to make our process smoother and better.

Story Crew for Deep Visionaries

5 individual positions available We want to build a story team for CICOLAB. This is a group that helps brilliant big systems thinkers to define their personal brand, and also helps them to explain their big ideas in ways that other can understand. For the personal brand side: This is what success looks like: https://wwlw.vincentarena.com/ . Vincent is the only one of our members that has a concise personal brand that expresses clearly what he does. You need not actually set up websites or do graphics (unless you have the ability to do that), but rather create a personal story for someone that explains their uniqueness. Most of our members really struggle to express who we are and what we want to do. We want you to help other people in our group achieve such clarity. We have ideas on how to do this (for example, you can start with watching a person's "circle appreciation profile" here , which will give you rich information on the person's role within CICOLAB), but we want you, as a group, to create a sort of rhythm so that you can start cranking out successful identifies faster, with a repeatable methodology. We are not just interested in how to do personal branding on a one-by-one basis, but how to do it on a meta-level. That means that we need your help creating a process for doing this, so that another story team can come along after you and follow the guidelines that you set. You will make sure that each of our members has a clear story, and that this is expressed in their presence online, like on their LinkedIn profile or on their CV. For each person's "big idea." Most of our members have some big project that they are working on, which they take an inordinate amount of time to explain, because generally our members work on things that are very complex. They will come to you, the Story Crew, to help them explain their work in ways that normal people can understand. You will conduct a long interview with them, and then produce materials that help explain what they are talking about. Generally, it would be good to start small, with various social media posts, to test different ways of framing and see what people actually respond to. Then, you might produce something a little bit bigger, such as a slide deck. Then, help them write concise papers on their work that they can use to apply for grants. You will work with one person at a time, and spend the amount of time needed to help that person. Then you will move on to the next person. CICOLAB as a group will give you feedback on your work.

Create a report on the concept of a "smart network"

CICOLAB.org is a collective intelligence collaboratory that promotes "exopreneurs," or systems-thinking entrepeneurs. We imagine a network of fully interoperable software that creates tremendous value for its participants, instead of massive value for the aggregators (People-centric data architecture instead of platform-centric). We are struggling because there is very little awareness of the potential of commons-based innovation and the business models are still in their infancy. You will have access to an entire team of experts on this issue, but will have to create an overarching story that sells these ideas and explains how intellectual property could work in such an environment. You are to write a report that makes interoperability seem like an amazing investment opportunity. (It is, actually, but we are not sure how to explain it articulately in ways that investors could understand).

Help our team of brilliant weirdos find consultancy positions

CICOLAB.org is a collective intelligence collaboratory that promotes "exopreneurs," or systems-thinking entrepeneurs. We have a very high level of neurodiverse people in our midst, as well as people who are just simply "different." CICOLAB is trying to develop a way to promote our members so that they can get hired by companies as consultants. While our population is uber-intelligent, we don't necessarily have the best resumes--it's going to be hard to get us in the front door. Your job is to figure out how to tell an effective story about ourselves so that we can get paid. There don't seem to be any companies looking for paradigm-shifters.

Create neurodiversity guide in commons-based peer production

CICOLAB.org is a collective intelligence collaboratory that promotes "exopreneurs," or systems-thinking entrepeneurs. We have a very high level of neurodiverse people in our midst, and we want to create a working environment that takes advantage of the innumerable good qualities they provide while making sure we do not do them harm. How can we bake in processes that will create a friendly atmosphere within a decentralized, collaborative environment? How can we signal to neurodiverse people that we are a organization that supports them? Produce a report, specific recommendations, and design social media posts.

Help us create a "quantum granting" fundraising hackathon

CICOLAB is a collective intelligence collaboratory for systems-thinking entrepeneurs, what we call "exopreneurs." The problem with exopreneurs is that we often do not fit in the regular business mold, and struggle to find finding for our ideas. We are hoping that by pooling our resources together and creating common stories, we can achieve more success for our paradigm-shifting ideas. We want to host a community-wide "quantum granting hackathon" event in which we use CI processes to apply for more grants as a network than we would ever be able to independently. We need a team to help us design and promote this event, which is more complex than most with a lot of moving parts.

Create a fully peered, collaborative, scalable process flow

CICOLAB is a collective intelligence collaboratory that has hosted roundtable discussions with experts in collective intelligence for over a year now. We have an extensive knowledge repository and an amazing network of collaboration experts. We need help developing a formal process flow where we onboard new members and help guide them through clear procedures. Our clients are "exopreneurs," or systems-thinking entrepreneurs, who are the ugly ducklings of the investment world. Our job is to incubate their ideas and guide them through a process where their ideas can grow into functioning businesses, but none of these projects can fit into the "Y Combinator" model. We need to create our own. You will need to go through our extensive inventory of discussions (all scrupulously documented), which has most of the information needed, and then help us create the "micro structures" that we need in order to go from a community to a fully functioning collaborative umbrella with different teams working together.

Help us design campaign around "exopreneurship"

CICOLAB is a group of self-proclaimed "exopreneurs," who are systems-thinking entrepreneurs. We have the ambition of entrepreneurs, the heart of social entrepreneurs, but with a commons-based, new paradigm mindset that makes it hard for us to find funding. Help our group tell the story of the "exopreneur" to help create a field that is close to social entrepeneurship but broader and deeper.

Create a marketing plan for "exopreneurs."

We are CICOLAB.org, a collective intelligence collaboratory with a mission to find and help "exopreneurs," a type of systems-thinking entrepreneur who isn't well served by the existing entrepeneur ecosystem. These people are big thinkers, brilliant, and ambitious, but they are not always well suited to get funding for various reasons: either what they want to do creates value for an entire community (or commons) instead of to one person, their projects rests outside the boxes of current funding siloes, or their idea is just too far ahead of its time and others don't understand it. We have a full community of these people to start with. Your mission is to interview them, figure out what their deep needs are, compile a profile, create an onboarding funnel, and then to figure out how to find more of them and how we can adapt our marketing to attract them. To find out more about the concept of exopreneurs, read our provisional whitepaper on the subject.

Research decentralized moderation in P2P technology (DAOs, blockchain, etc)

Positions available: 12. We will help support students to collaborate as a team. CICOLAB, a nonprofit support network for systems-thinkers in collective intelligence, has written what we have called a " BlackPaper " highlighting what we see are clear and imminent threats coming from far-right, violent extremists using encrypted technologies like the blockchain. In this paper we have highlighted what we see are solutions to problems with decentralized moderation, and we want to build on this paper with a commission report detailing the next steps we recommend the community at large to take. That's where you, the student team, would come in. We need you to conduct extensive interviews with people in the decentralized technology field (blockchain, DAOs, etc), transcribe them, harvest the most important points, organize the information using software, and then produce a summary of the larger findings. CICOLAB will provide you with an initial list of questions you will need to research, a group of advisors, and contacts we would like you to interview. Some of the research has already been done, and it is a matter of reading it and compiling it. The rest is field research to do from your own investigations and interviews. You (the students) would gather together the research that has already been done on the topic, and also do your own investigations into P2P communities that have suffered through conflicts, to examine what patterns are happening over and over again. You would then spread out to different blockchain communities with a list of questions we feel need to be answered. By the end, the group of students will produce the following: A 10-page (or less), graphically attractive and very well written PDF summary, which we will release as a public whitepaper; A list of questions you have answered satisfactorily, and what questions remain unanswered; A larger report of perhaps 200-300 pages, which includes extensive linking to original source material, such as research papers and interviews with professionals in the field (this might be indexed within a software program instead of something like Google docs). A knowledge repository of recorded interviews, along with original video footage, transcripts, and notes, like the following: https://workflowy.com/s/knowledge-repository/0pFxLdWqyLpTi9Gb ; A personal story of your collective journey, such as https://miro.com/app/board/o9J_lViZOsA=/ , where you tell a tale of your collective time together and make explicit their assumptions, their mistakes, and their successes; A list of recommendations for CICOLAB of what we need to to put in place to make the whole process go smoother the next time. We think that your hard work will lead to the funding of a decentralized conflict resolution system, which is a critical innovation needed to prevent large-scale conflict like genocide.

Story Creation for Deep Visionaries

Number of students available: 10 students working individually and in teams We are looking for 10 students to help CICOLAB. CICOLAB is an incubator for a special kind of entrepeneur called an exopreneur . We work with deep visionaries and systems thinkers and help them develop narratives that normal people can understand. You will work with brilliant minds who have innovative solutions that are incredibly complex. Benefits You can be as creative as you like, and will not be bound by boring corporate restrictions. You will be exposed to exciting new ideas and projects that will be incredibly stimulating. The storymaking potential is definitely there, and you will learn storytelling methodologies from very talented professionals. We are focusing on creating web pages, presentations, and explainer videos, less on SEO. Drawbacks If you are a person needing extensive direction, you might find the freedom daunting. Also, you will be working with brilliant, passionate people who find it difficult to express themselves to regular people, and they will use lots of jargon and new concepts. It will take a long time to understand the ideas because the way these people think is very, very different from others.

Coordinate community-wide grantwriting project

CICOLAB.org is a mutual commitment organization for exopreneurs, who are entrepreneurs working on systems change projects, especially having to do with developing ecosystems for interoperable technology. These projects are generally peer-to-peer, commons-based, interdisciplinary, and based on collective intelligence. We are spearheading a network-wide grantwriting initiative to unify different groups in our network who are working in this space to come together to increase our funding. If you are interested in working with some of the most brilliant, visionary thinkers of our time, CICOLAB is the place for you. This project will include: Co-create a database of network assets: ideas, projects, entities, frameworks, etc. using Media Wiki. Go through a grants database and identify potential opportunities for the network and put them in a community calendar. Help coordinate a federated co-writing process using FedWiki, a highly innovative software with a terrible UI What skills we are looking for: There are two kinds of people that would love this internship. The first is a wildly intelligent misfit nerd who has a chance to understand the various projects in this sphere and can make connections about how they all fit together. The second is a patient social butterfly who can connect with people on a personal level and help others explain difficult concepts in easy ways. Either way, you care deeply about systemic change and solving wicked problems. You must absolutely be able to work independently and to herd a bunch of cats, since what you will be attempting to do has rarely been done before, and our road map is being drawn as we go. Being able to think for yourself and take initiative is therefor a prerequisite. If you hate being told what to do, you will fit right in, but just be aware, wrangling a network of people who hate to be told what to do is not an easy task. Objective Succeeding at this task will not be easy or straightforward, but it will be incredibly intellectually stimulating. A lot of this work is very "meta" (meaning abstract), but also very important. If you do your job well, your efforts will lead to incredibly worthy projects getting funded and for you to take part in a truly innovative process that pushes the current boundaries of collective intelligence.
